Dexter Durfey - Education Business Consultant and Retired Secretary-Treasurer with Palliser School Division.
Dexter Durfey, a recently retired Secretary Treasurer, was honored with a Life Member Award at the 2024 ASBOA AGM and served as ASBOA Provincial President twice. His career in School Business began in 1995 with Westwind School Division as Assistant Secretary Treasurer. He became Secretary Treasurer in 2004 and continued with Palliser School Division until his retirement in 2024. Throughout his career, Dexter was pivotal in co-founding several initiatives including the Southern Alberta Wind Power Consortia and the Alberta Risk Managed Insurance Consortia. He also played a key role in the Alberta School Transportation Task Force, leading audits that resulted in increased funding and legislative changes.
Beyond his professional achievements, Dexter and his wife Candice are proud parents of 10 children and grandparents to 20 grandchildren. Residing in Raymond, Alberta, Dexter enjoys traveling, playing pickleball, maintaining his yard, and fishing. He remains engaged as an Education Business Consultant and is passionate about innovative approaches and change management, a field he explored further through his MBA in 2007.
Thomas Hamer - Associate Superintendent of Learning Services at Palliser Regional Schools
Tom Hamer, the Associate Superintendent of Learning Services at Palliser Regional Schools, has made significant contributions to public education since joining the division in August 2018. With a career beginning as a Math and Science teacher at Massey-Vanier High School, Tom progressed through roles as Vice Principal and Principal at Eastern Townships School Board before moving to Palliser as Director of Learning in 2014. His work emphasizes the integration of educational technology, assessment, and inclusive practices to enhance learning environments. Tom's initiatives in these areas reflect his commitment to fostering innovative and equitable educational experiences.
Outside his professional role, Tom enjoys exploring advancements in educational leadership and technology. He holds a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Bishop's University, alongside a Bachelor of Science in Biology, a Bachelor of Arts in Geography, and a Diploma in Education. Residing in Lethbridge, Alberta, Tom remains dedicated to driving positive change in education and is passionate about supporting diverse and effective learning strategies within his community.
