Sparkrock’s History
Sparkrock began in 2003 with a simple idea: that technology should make it easier for people to do meaningful work.
Founders James Faw and Nicola Dickinson spent years helping for-profit companies solve complex challenges with smart systems. But they noticed an even greater demand for solutions within organizations serving the public good. Nonprofits, school boards, and human service agencies were working under tight constraints with outdated tools. So, they took a leap.
What started in the basement of James’ home grew into a global team of over 100 people, united by a mission to support those who serve. Today, Sparkrock supports hundreds of organizations across North America and powers the work of hundreds of thousands of users.
In 2022, Sparkrock joined the Ionic Partners family. That partnership brought new momentum, but the purpose remains the same: to help mission-driven teams spark lasting impact with confidence, clarity, and technology that understands them.
In 2024, Sparkrock acquired Edsembli, strengthening our commitment to the K–12 sector with a modern student information system. In 2025, we welcomed School-Day to the Sparkrock family, expanding our reach into student payments and activity management.
